Naphyrone
Other names: NRG-1, Energy1

Naphyrone is a stimulant drug similar to Mephedrone. It is similar in appearance, with a fine, corn flour consistency which can either be snorted or swallowed by wrapping it in cigarette paper, a technique known as ‘bombing’. In order to get around drug laws it was originally sold under false claims that it is ‘plant food’, ‘pond cleaner’ etc. NAPHYRONE WAS NEVER INTENDED TO BE USED AS A PLANT FOOD ETC. Users report feeling a much cleaner high, its main effects include feeling chatty, happy, alert and confident.

Risks and Dangers
The long term effects of using Naphyrone are unknown. Reports claim that Naphyrone is more potent than similar drugs such as Mephedrone. A significant danger surrounding Naphyrone are the effects can be slow acting. Users often re-dose believing that the original dose has had no effect, increasing the risk of over dose. It is recommend that users take far smaller doses, than when using other stimulant drugs; such as Ecstasy or Mephedrone.

Young people around Redcar and Cleveland who have used Naphyrone report that snorting the drug can easily result in nose damage. Symptoms include a painful nose, the nose feeling swollen and nose bleeds. Users have complained of loss of appetite, easily irritated, lack of concentration, loss of motivation, dizziness, paranoia, hallucinations and memory loss. Other risks include; overstimulation of the heart and blood flow which could result in fits, seizures or people fearing they were about to have a heart attack.

Using Naphyrone often results in miserable and server comedowns significantly worse than Mephedrone. Users report feeling jittery, very tired, depressed, anxious and unable to sleep. They also may find that they are very skint!

The Law
Naphyrone was controlled as a class B drug under the misuse of drugs act 1971, on the 23rd July 2010 meaning it is illegal to have, give away or sell. As a result maximum penalties for possession are 5 years imprisonment plus a fine and 14 years imprisonment and a fine for supply.
